Orioles Acquire Outfielder Harold Rivas As Final Player in Adley Rutschman Deal

The Orioles now have the second-ranked farm system in the Major Leagues, per FanGraphs.

Former Boston Red Sox prospect Harold Rivas has become the final addition for the Baltimore Orioles in the Adley Rutschman trade.

The Orioles announced the completion of the trade via X on Wednesday morning. Initially, Rivas was stated by MLB.com Orioles beat reporter Jake Rill that he would not be part of the deal. Baltimore initially acquired Major League catcher Carlos Narváez, along with minor leaguers in right-handed pitchers Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon and outfielder Enddy Azocar for Rutschman and fellow catcher Jake Rogers to be sent to Boston. 

Rivas, an 18-year-old outfielder from Venezuela, was ranked the 32nd-best international prospect in 2025, per MLB Pipeline. He was initially signed in Jan. 2025 for a $950,000 bonus and now becomes Baltimore’s 26th-ranked prospect in the system. The 6-foot-2, 177-pound Rivas has played in 92 games in the Red Sox farm system – 46 games in the Dominican Summer League in 2025 and 46 games in the Florida Complex League this season. 

He has 394 plate appearances in which he’s slashed .249/.368/.407 with an on-base plus slugging percentage of .775, notching eight home runs 41 stolen bases (he was caught stealing 13 times), walked 59 times and struck out 87 times. Rivas additionally holds a .958 fielding percentage in 633 innings as an outfielder and has a high range factor per nine innings with 2.89 with 2.6 being considered highly above average for center fielders. However, his range factor per game is 2.39, which is considered to be below average for his typical position.

Orioles Have Large Quantity Of Prospects

The Orioles have the second-best farm system according to FanGraphs. Baltimore has one pitcher in Eyanson that holds a 55 future value, which FanGraphs states is an “Above-average everyday player, top 8-15 player at their position across several seasons, 2.5 WAR type producer. No. 3 SP on a contender.” What Baltimore lacks in high-end value, they make up for in their sheer number of prospects.

Baltimore has two batters and two pitchers who have 50 FV or an “Average everyday player, top 20 player at his position, no. 4 SP or good closer.” Then, the Orioles have three batters with 45+ FV – “Risky players with big upside, often toolsy up-the-middle players a great distance from the big leagues, volatile players whose year-to-year production is expected to vary a lot.” 

The Orioles have 73 prospects that have a 35+ FV or higher – the most of any farm system. It is also the highest-ranked system that has over 60 prospects. Baltimore’s stockpiling of prospects could allow the team to make more of a push in the trade market in future years. It could additionally hedge the team’s bet on their current crop of Major League players and allow for organizational flexibility in the future.
