Philadelphia Phillies Found Their Power At Right Time

The Philadelphia Phillies needed their bats to show up and the long ball came at the right time when welcoming in their instate opponent.

After coming out of a successful road trip that saw the Philadelphia Phillies go 4-2, there were some questions regarding their offense entering Thursday's game.

The once prolific lineup had only mustered up five or more runs four times during the first 12 games of the season.

Power numbers were down across the board, but the most alarming thing was the lack of home runs they had hit.

Fortunately, the Phillies found the long ball at the right time when they welcomed in the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates for the Pennsylvania showdown series.

After three scoreless innings, Philadelphia was able to give Ranger Suarez some breathing room when Alec Bohm hit a solo shot 407 feet to center field, his first bomb of the year.

It stayed at 1-0 for the next couple frames before things broke open in the seventh.

Brandon Marsh continued his incredible start to the season when blasting his own homer to left center that scored two runs. Two batters later, Bryson Stott hit his first jack of the year when he sent a ball 402 feet to right center field that also drove in two runs.

The Phillies held onto a 5-1 victory, all five coming from deep shots.

That's much more like this team. Using their hitting ability and power to strike quick and put up crooked numbers during any given frame.

Prior to this contest, there was speculation surrounding Philadelphia about if their new approach was neutering their power hitters with the focus on chasing less. This was punctuated by Nick Castellanos basically confirming that he's adjusting to this strategy at the plate and thinks it's negatively affecting his game.

If the Phillies are able to carry over this performance during the rest of their nine-game homestand will be seen, but it would be a major red flag if they aren't considering they'll face the lowly Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Sox after they finish up with the Pirates on Sunday.
