Pache Shines in Second Phillies Injury Rehab Game

In this story:
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Cristian Pache got his bat going in his second rehab game with Class-A Clearwater on Wednesday.
While Pache was getting more at-bats as he hopes to return next week, the Phillies shut out the Washington Nationals, 7-0, with pitcher Michael Lorenzen throwing a no-hitter, rookie Weston Wilson hitting a home run in his first MLB at-bat and Nick Castellanos hitting his 200th career home run.
Pache was the designated hitter and batted second on Wednesday, as he went 2-for-3 with two runs and two walks.
He singled in the first inning but was thrown out at second. In the third, he drew a walk and was stranded at first.
In the fifth, Pache drew his second walk and later scored on Justin Crawford’s sacrifice fly.
In the seventh, he singled to center field and scored on Crawford’s third home run with the Threshers this season.
Pache ended his game by grounding out in the eighth inning.
He is expected to play one more game for Clearwater before a promotion, perhaps to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he could play two more games before a potential activation by the Phillies next week.
Pache’s return would be welcome, as the Phillies lost outfielder Brandon Marsh for two or three weeks due to an injury last weekend.
Pache has dealt with injuries all season. He tore his meniscus at the end of April and went on the injured list for six weeks before returning in mid-June. He played up until the All-Star break when the Phillies had to IL him against for right elbow irritation.
Pache had to have surgery to remove a loose screw causing that irritation. The screw was inserted in Pache’s elbow for a previous injury.
Pache is valued for his glove, but in just 53 plate appearances this season he’s slashed .327/.365/.592 with seven doubles, two home runs and eight RBI.
