Rangers Superstar Seen As Underrated By Peers

One Texas Rangers star was actually seen as underrated by his peers in a recent survey during spring training.

Corey Seager is a two-time World Series champion and MVP, but in the eyes of some MLB players the  Texas Rangers superstar is actually underrated.

MLB.com recently polled players during spring training and asked them who they believed was the most underrated player in baseball.

Seager actually tied for third with Atlanta infielder Ozzie Albies.

The veteran was recently ranked by MLB.com as the No. 1 shortstop in the game. Those rankings were based on past player performances, offensive and defensive metrics, traditional baseball statistics and advanced metrics.

Seager is coming off a 2023 in which he finished second in American League Most Valuable Player voting to Shohei Ohtani and won a Silver Slugger at shortstop.

He slashed .327/.390/.623/1.013 with 42 doubles, 33 home runs and 96 RBI. He set a career high for doubles and RBI while matching his career high for home runs, set in 2022 during his first season with the Rangers. He was also voted to the American League All-Star Game starting lineup.

In the postseason, Seager hit one of the biggest home runs in Rangers history, a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth that was followed by an uncharacteristic bit of emotion from the normally stoic Seager.

Perhaps that’s part of the reason his peers perceive him as being overlooked.

“Everyone knows he's really, really good, but I feel like he's not always in the spotlight, so he's underrated,” an AL second baseman said.

In the World Series he slashed .286/.375/.762/1.137 with three home runs and six RBI. He’s missed spring training due to sports hernia surgery but was ready for Opening Day against the Chicago Cubs.
