In this story:

The race is on for the Texas Rangers and things couldn't be much tighter. The Rangers took two out of three from the Washington Nationals earlier this week, and all three games of that series ended in a shutout for the winning team.

Texas (63-65) enters its series with the Los Angeles Angels starting on Friday two games under .500 but still squarely in the race to win the American League West or to claim the final AL wild card berth.

In the division, the Rangers are one game back of the Houston Astros (64-64), who were waylaid by the Angels on Thursday evening, 18-3. Houston still controls the race and the tiebreaker with the Rangers. The two teams won't meet again in 2026 and the Astros won the season series, meaning if they end up tied in any way the Astros get the playoff berth.

The Rangers are tied with the Minnesota Twins for the final wild card berth and for now the Twins have the edge on tiebreaker. But the race is nowhere near over. Five other teams are within three games of the Twins and the Rangers, and Texas still has games to play with the Twins and the Toronto Blue Jays (63-66), who are one-half game back of the pair.

Here is a breakdown of the series, including how to watch, the starting pitchers, Rangers injuries and more. The Rangers have only set one probable pitcher, which is for Friday's game as left-hander MacKenzie gore will take the bump against another left-hander, Angels starter Reid Detmers.
