Kings Troll Pistons During Pregame Intros With Brandon Aiyuk’s Miraculous Catch vs. Lions

Detroit Lions fans are still getting over their team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game. Watching the Niners play in the Super Bowl this Sunday likely won’t help in that recovery.

Unfortunately, the Detroit Pistons aren’t helping fans move on either. The Pistons went into Wednesday night’s matchup versus the Sacramento Kings with the worst record in the NBA at 6–43. That wasn’t likely to improve with a 2–20 record on the road.

The Kings’ game production crew probably could have trolled the Pistons by simply playing clips (lowlights?) from their terrible season thus far. However, the team chose to be more creative and dig a bit deeper in teasing the visiting team.

As the Pistons’ lineup was introduced, a clip of Brandon Aiyuk’s miraculous third-quarter catch, snagged after a ricochet off Kindle Vildor’s helmet for a 51-yard jolt, against the Lions played on the scoreboard.

That was a very clever dig at Detroit sports, though not exactly a direct shot at the Pistons. However, that may have inspired the visitors. The Pistons played what may have been their best game of the season, winning 133–120, fueled by a career-high 37 points from Jaden Ivey.

Detroit’s 2023-24 season will be best known for setting an NBA record with a 28-game losing streak. Yet perhaps the Pistons are showing some fight as a young core of talent develops and the front office refines the roster with trades to provide more shooting and spacing.

Or maybe they’re still sore about that Lions playoff loss too.
