The buy out comes after Lowry didn't make any appearances in Charlotte following his inclusion in a trade package from the Miami Heat in January.
Throughout his time with the Heat this season, which includes 35 starts through 37 games, the 37-year-old averaged eight points on 42 percent shooting.
Yet, Lowry's next chapter may already be decided as Wojnarowski reported that the Philadelphia 76ers have signed the veteran guard to a contract worth $2.8 million for the remainder of the season

The decision to sign Lowry would come after a busy trade deadline for Daryl Morey and the Sixers, who were involved in four trades, some of which managed to clear some cap space.
Most notably Danuel House Jr and Jaden Springer's contracts being cleared by the Sixers in deals that didn't include any incoming contracts, which allowed flexibility in the buy out market.
The move would be a homecoming for Lowry, who is from Philadelphia, having also played as a part of Villanova's basketball program in college.
It would also reunite Lowry with his former head coach Nick Nurse, who coached him for some time while Nurse was the coach for the Toronto Raptors.
The 37-year-old will help provide depth for Philadelphia's guard department, as it currently only includes Tyrese Maxey, De'Anthony Melton, Cameron Payne, Buddy Hield, and Kelly Oubre Jr, following Thursday's trade activity.
The move comes during a tough point for the Sixers, who have dropped down the Eastern Conference standings, following the injury of reigning MVP Joel Embiid.
