Sixers News: Ricky Council Sees Promotion With New Contract

The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to make Ricky Council a member of the final roster ahead of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Council is getting his two-way contract converted into a four-year standard deal. Per the report, Council’s contract is expected to be worth $7.4 million, and adding in over $860,000 in new money for this season.

This season, the undrafted rookie out of Arkansas appeared in 31 games for the Sixers. Averaging a little under ten minutes on the court, Council hit on 48 percent of his shots from the field and 36 percent of his threes, scoring 5.5 points per game.

While Council has a handful of appearances with the Sixers, he spent a chunk of the season competing with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

In 11 games with the Blue Coats during the regular season, Council averaged 23 points on 47 percent shooting from the field. He also produced five rebounds and two assists per game.

During Delaware’s two playoff games this season, Council averaged nearly 30 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. The Blue Coats fell short in the second round, leading Council to re-join the Sixers for the remainder of the 2023-2024 regular season.

In order for Council to become playoff-eligible for Philadelphia, the team needed to sign the rookie to a standard deal by Sunday. The Sixers satisfy the masses by getting it done, as Council has developed into a fan favorite throughout his first stint with the 76ers.
