Report points to backup playmaker as the Milwaukee Bucks' biggest need

In this story:
While the Milwaukee Bucks have addressed the urgent matter of re-signing their two All-Star free agents Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, what the team has yet to do is acquire a guard who's capable of playing the backup point guard position. Last season, that role belonged to sparkplug Jevon Carter, who has since signed with the Chicago Bulls.
While Holiday remains one of the best two-way guards in the entire league, there's no denying he's already getting up there in age and mileage. He missed a total of 15 games last season due to injuries and load management, and in an increasingly competitive Eastern Conference where every game matters, having a backup point guard is of crucial importance.
No commitment to filling the spot
According to Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley, the Bucks did well to retain two of their core players but failed to pick up a player who can give Holiday a break and keep the team rolling whenever the latter's off the floor. According to Bucks general manager Jon Horst, they don't appear to be in any hurry to get such a player.
"The Bucks took care of their most pressing issues this summer, namely re-signing both Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. What they haven't done, though, is found a playmaker to put behind Jrue Holiday and in place of Jevon Carter, who bounced to the Bulls in free agency. In fact, they haven't even committed to ever filling that spot," Buckley wrote.
At peace
In an interview with The Athletic, Horst shared he's content with the roster's construction right now, saying the Bucks have secondary ballhandlers who can take on the role.
"We're at peace with where we're at right now," Horst said. "We'll see. You never know how it works out and we'll have avenues to change, if we need to change. But we have a lot of secondary ballhandlers."
Horst is banking on young two-way contract players Lindell Wigginton and Omari Moore to possibly contribute in that area. Middleton and even Giannis can also orchestrate the offense when Holiday isn't around. However, this obviously is not an ideal recipe for success.
"Horst cited two-way contract players Lindell Wigginton and Omari Moore as candidates for the job, while also highlighting the playmaking ability of many of Milwaukee's non-point guards. That feels like an incomplete plan for one of the league's top title contenders. The Bucks need someone who can pilot the second unit and lighten the load on Holiday. Saying there are several potential choices for the gig is just a different way of saying there isn't an obvious one."
