The Milwaukee Bucks had the win in the bag but let go of the rope down the stretch to fall to the reigning champions Golden State Warriors. They held a three-point lead, 111-108, and possession of the ball with just seconds to go in the thrilling match, but the normally-surehanded Jrue Holiday committed a costly turnover that paved the way for Stephen Curry to work his magic and lead the Warriors to a 125-116 win.

Afterward, Holiday took responsibility for the error, calling it “stupid.”

“Essentially, we had the game, but I was being stupid,” Holiday said. “Honestly, I was just dribbling and that ball didn’t come up, but that’s stupid. I just wanted to get across. I knew they had to foul. But I didn’t want to play with it in the backcourt, just wanted to get it across and then stand there. Stupid play. Stupid play on my part.”

Awful turnover

The veteran guard did not have the best performance but hit one of the biggest shots of the match when he canned a triple over the outstretched arms of Kevon Looney to give the Bucks a 111-108 lead with 32 seconds to go. Milwaukee regained possession after Brook Lopez swatted away Jordan Poole’s layup attempt.

Holiday got the ball and dribbled it up the floor, only to lose it to the sidelines with 24 seconds remaining. This led to Curry canning a triple on the other end to tie the game up at 111-all.

Another chance

Holiday had a chance to redeem himself on the Bucks’ last possession in regulation. Isolated against former teammate Donte DiVincenzo on the perimeter, Holiday shed his defender and appeared to have a clear path to the basket, only for Curry to rise up and block the potential game-winner.

“I thought I had a lane,” Holiday said. “Again, I should know that if I go in there, I’m not going to get a foul call. They’re going to swallow the whistle at the end of the game.”

Holiday finished with 18 points on 7-of-22 shooting to go with nine rebounds and eight assists. He also committed a whopping six turnovers.
