Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell Undergoes Procedure For Nasal Fracture

The star Cleveland guard underwent a medical procedure for a nasal fracture on Tuesday, and will be reevaluated in approximately one week.

This past Wednesday, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell returned to the floor after missing the team’s previous seven games due to a bone bruise in his left knee.

However, he experienced another injury in just his second game back from this absence. This past Saturday against the Houston Rockets, the 27-year-old suffered a nasal fracture after being inadvertently hit in the face by teammate Tristan Thompson on a rebound attempt. This caused Mitchell to miss Cleveland’s 108-103 win over the Indiana Pacers last night.

Now, the five-time reigning NBA All-Star will remain off the floor for multiple games.

On Tuesday, the Cavaliers released an update regarding Mitchell’s status:

“Donovan Mitchell sustained a nasal fracture at Houston on March 16 and missed the Cavaliers’ next game at Indiana on March 18. A medical procedure was performed this morning at Cleveland Clinic to realign the affected area. Mitchell will be reevaluated in approximately one week and his status will be updated as appropriate.”

The Wine and Gold have four games within the next week.

First, they will host the Miami Heat tomorrow night. Cleveland will then have a two-game road trip, when the team will face the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Finally, the Cavaliers will return home with a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.

Mitchell has already missed 19 games due to injury, which means that he is ineligible for any 2023-24 NBA honors and awards. So far this season, the Wine and Gold have gone 10-9 without the star guard in their lineup.
