In an official press release on Thursday night, the Memphis Grizzlies revealed big injury updates on Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart. In their announcement, the team wrote the following:

"The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the following medical updates for wing Desmond Bane and guard Marcus Smart: Bane, who sustained a Grade 3 left ankle sprain during the January 12 game against the LA Clippers, was recently re-evaluated and is progressing well. He is expected to return to play within the next 3-5 weeks. Smart, who sustained a rupture of the proximal interphalangeal joint central slip during the January 9 game against the Dallas Mavericks, was recently re-evaluated, which indicated that the injury is healing properly. He will wear a splint for another three weeks, at which time he will be re-evaluated. Further updates will be provided as appropriate."

While both players will still be out several more weeks, this update revealed that they are progressing well, which is a good thing. The Grizzlies are already way too far back in the Western Conference standings to make any sort of postseason push, so there is no reason to rush back players like Smart or Bane who project to be in their longterm plans.

Next season is when Memphis plans to make a push again, and getting healthy for that push is the top priority.
