The Miami Heat eneter their next contest with the Boston Celtics ar 40-36, in a matchup that ESPN has ranked as the 9th most important game remaining this season. Much in part to the competetiveness of the Eastern Conference that sees seeds 5-10 separated by 3 games. For the Heat, and many other teams, escaping the NBA's play-in tournament and getting an auto-bid to the playoffs is the goal.

Currently, the Heat sit in the 9 spot 2.5 games back of Toronto for the 6 seed, with two games remaining against the Raports, and the tie breaker secured over the Hornets, and Sixers, with an opportunity to also beat the Hawks in the last game of the season.

So the path is there, it's in the Heat's hands, and it will likely take 45 wins to get it done. With that said, here is the first rooting guide with the Miami Heat's best interest in mind.

What the Miami Heat Must Do Now to Escape the Play-In

1. Atlanta Over Orlando

The Hawks have been one of the best teams in the association since the All-Star break and have surged into the East's 5 seed. A victory over the Magic will be important for Miami as Miami lost all 5 matchups against the Magic this season. A Magic collapse (which has already begun) and a few more losses on their tough schedule (Pistons, Timberwolves, Celtics) are far more likely than Atlanta cooling off. Miami will also get their shot at the Hawks in the season finale (potentially the most important game of the season).

2. Washington Over Philadelphia

Now while this is wishful thinking as the Wizards are tanking, and the Sixers are in the thick of the playoff race, the Miami Heat --and the NBA for that matter-- have proven that anything is possible on any given night. The Wizards are 0-3 on the Year vs the 76ers and will likely get dominated again, but they can still help the Heat.

3. Sacramento Over Toronto

Another game where it's more so wishful thinking, but a Sacramento victory over Toronto would put the Heat just a half game back of the six seed (coupled with a Heat win). Their last and only matchup went the Raptors way, but tonight the Raptors will be without Immanuel Quickley and Brandon Ingram, while Scottie Barnes is also questionable. That said, most of the Kings best players haven't played in weeks.

Scoreboard watching is not the key to Miami's season, but we are at the point where it is worth paying attention to.

But as always, the first course of action is for the Miami Heat to handle their business, and everything else will work itself out, just like it always does.

Boston is a tough matchup for Miami, but Miami has proven capable of beating anybody and a win tonight could remind everyone on why you can never count out the Miami Heat.
