The Los Angeles Lakers could be shorthanded in their match against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.

The Lakers have a long list of players on their injury report, including their superstar guard, Luka Dončić. Dončić lands on the injury report due to back soreness and is listed as questionable.

Dončić said on Saturday that he had been dealing with a lingering back issue. After the game, Dončić spoke to the media and provided an update on his nagging back injury.

“I’ve been feeling it since that fall, so just dealing with it. But I’m fine… I’m good.”

There were times in warm-ups against the New York Knicks and the Celtics when we saw Dončić wincing. The Lakers could use Monday's game to rest Dončić before their three sets of back-to-backs, starting Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 26-year-old is coming off a solid performance against the Celtics. He recorded a team-high 34 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the field, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 37 minutes of action.

However, with the No. 2 seed in the West in their sights, the Lakers cannot afford to let go of the gas. While they have some room to play with, as they have a good cushion between them and the No. 7 seed, a bad stretch of games could be the difference between being in the top six or being in the play-in.

The Lakers cannot afford to play around with that, so if Dončić is healthy enough to play, he will be on the court. All eyes will be on Dončić if they weren't before, as L.A. will be without their superstar forward, LeBron James, due to his left groin injury.

James will be out for a week or two, depending on how his groin feels in the coming days. L.A. will also continue to be without Rui Hachimura, Mai Kleber, and their forward Dorian Finney-Smith, who is out with left ankle soreness.

The Lakers are now back as the No. 2 seed in the West after the Denver Nuggets dropped their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. L.A. will need to take advantage of this matchup against the Nets with or without Dončić on the court.

The Nets have not had a great season. They have a 21-42 record, which is good for the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference.
