In this story:
The Dallas Mavericks are making a major move ahead of the trade deadline, sending Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards in an eight-player deal.
In the deal, the Mavericks are sending Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum to the Wizards in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks, and three second-round selections. Mavericks Might Make More Moves After Davis Trade
The Mavericks are keeping it kosher with four players on each side of the deal, but there is no guarantee that the Mavs keep all of their new players. Johnson and Branham are interesting options as younger guys, but Middleton and Bagley could be on the move in separate deals ahead of the deadline.
Middleton is a free agent at the end of the season, and he could be viewed as a buyout candidate for the Mavericks. Bagley is also expected to hit the open market. His addition to the roster gives Dallas an opportunity to trade Daniel Gafford should they find a new home for him.
Gafford has been involved in trade rumors over the past couple of weeks, and the Mavericks could look to trade him if they found a proper home for him. With Davis no longer in the picture officially, the Mavericks are moving forward to the future with Cooper Flagg as the main centerpiece. The five additional selections they get in the deal help things moving forward.
This deadline has already caused a lot of chaos around the league, and there is room for more as there is just 24 hours until the deadline.
In the meantime, the Mavericks are back in action tomorrow when they take on the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM CT inside the American Airlines Center. Fans can watch the game on ABC or stream it on the ESPN app.
