On Friday night, the Detroit Pistons will continue their current four-game road trip. After suffering a defeat to the Atlanta Hawks, next up is another meeting with the heavily depleted Memphis Grizzlies.

As the regular season comes to a close, the Pistons have been without a handful of rotation players. In their rematch with the Grizzlies, Detroit will be without their top performer of the year. Guard Cade Cunningham has been ruled out for the matchup due to left knee injury management.

The last time Cunningham was in action was when these teams played each other on Monday. Things went down to the wire, with the Grizzlies walking away with a two-point victory. Cunningham had a dominant outing for the Pistons, finishing with a stat line of 36 points, four rebounds, and eight assists.

After missing most of last season due to injury, Cunningham has had a bounce-back year in 2024. Along with playing in over 60 games, he’s averaging 22.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 7.5 assists.

With Cunningham on the sidelines, Monty Williams has a decision to make regarding his starting lineup. The top option to start at point guard in his place is rookie Marcus Sasser. Him and Malachi Flynn filled the void left by Cunningham, with the latter erupting for 50 points off the bench.

Over the past few weeks, the Pistons have decided to shut down multiple players among those being rookie Ausar Thompson and big man Isaiah Stewart. Due to them being out of playoff contention, the team continues to be cautious with their star guard to finish out the regular season.
