Detroit Pistons Rookie’s Injury Status vs. Atlanta Hawks Revealed

In this story:
UPDATE: Marcus Sasser is AVAILABLE against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
As of late, the Detroit Pistons have been dealing with their fair share of setbacks.
Count the rookie Marcus Sasser in as somebody who has been a regular on the injury report recently.
Over the previous two games against the Washington Wizards and the Memphis Grizzlies, the Pistons entered the matchups with Sasser listed as questionable. Ahead of both outings, the rookie was held out.
That could once again be the case on Wednesday, when the Pistons take on the Atlanta Hawks. According to the injury report, Sasser is questionable to play due to an upper respiratory illness.
While the Pistons continue to leave the door open for Sasser’s potential return, his head coach recently offered an update, which sounds quite concerning for the status of the rookie guard moving forward.
"Still struggling a bit. He's wearing himself out, he wants to get on the floor,” said Pistons head coach Monty Williams recently. “But I looked at him this morning and I thought, man he's still struggling. He's on medication and rest, and now he's building his cardio back up."
Throughout the year, Sasser hasn’t been unlucky when it comes to health. He made it through his first 22 games of action without having a single absence. Although he didn’t play on December 11 for the first time since his NBA debut, his absence wasn’t injury-related.
Sasser wasn’t inactive for the first time until the Pistons’ December 30 matchup. After his absence, Sasser returned to the court in the following game.
It wasn’t until late February when Sasser missed his first stretch of games. After being listed as out for four-straight outings, Sasser returned to action on March 3. He would go on to play in 14 games in a row, while averaging 23 minutes per game.
Lately, Sasser has been struggling with his shot as he’s made just 33 percent from the field during that 14-game stretch. Fortunately, his larger sample size has been promising. In the 64 games he appeared in this year, Sasser has knocked down 38 percent of his threes while averaging eight points per game.
The rookie hopes to build on his promising season as the Pistons close out the 2023-2024 NBA season, but it’s unclear if Sasser will be cleared to take on the Hawks Wednesday. The two teams tip off at 7:30 PM ET.
