It was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic that the Golden State Warriors are signing G-League big man Jayce Johnson to a training camp Exhibit 10 deal. As Charania noted, Johnson is the G-League’s top rebounder, and stands 7’0” tall.

While Exhibit 10 players don’t often make NBA rosters out of camp, the Warriors have two roster spots and two-way slots open, and could consider using one of these on Johnson if he impresses in this opportunity. Golden State has been lacking in size the last few seasons, especially with James Wiseman never panning out, so it makes sense why they’d want a look at a player like Johnson.

Even if Johnson doesn’t earn one of Golden State’s remaining roster spots, this should be a great opportunity for him to be around some of the game’s most experienced players and coaches. Learning alongside players like Steph Curry and Draymond Green while also training under Steve Kerr should be a great learning experience for the young big man.

Johnson is not new to the Warriors organization, having played 32 games for their G-League affiliate last season. In his time with the Santa Cruz Warriors a year ago, Johnson averaged 9.4 PPG and 13.5 RPG while rejecting over a shot per contest. The Warriors are clearly intrigued with Johnson’s skillset, and will give him a look during their training camp.
