Twitter accounts dedicated to posting fake quotes are not new, but with verification now accessible to anybody willing to pay $8 per month, it's a lot easier for misinformation to disguise itself as legit news. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green learned that the hard way on Wednesday, responding to a fake Kevin Garnett quote with an angry Tweet:

Green deleted the Tweet after being informed the quote was fake, but his blunder has been seen by millions after people were quick to screenshot it. Since Green's error went viral, fans on NBA Twitter have been sharing their reactions to what was an embarrassing moment for the Warriors star:

Some of the reactions have been even funnier than Green's error itself. With the prevalence of misinformation on Twitter, one has nobody to blame but themselves if they fall for one of these fake accounts. There are so many pages dedicated solely to posting fake quotes, that anyone ready to react to something on Twitter needs to make sure they double check where and who the content is coming from.

Learning this the hard way, Green will have to wear this moment of embarrassment for a while, because NBA Twitter certainly will not forget it. Garnett responding made the moment even funnier, because Green seemed legitimately bothered in his initial response to the fake quote.
