Today, as it stands, the Washington Wizards find themselves holding on by a thread at the bottom of the NBA Play-In Tournament. Making the Play-In Tournament doesn’t guarantee the Wizards a playoff spot. Instead, they will have to battle it out against teams like the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, and maybe even the Indiana Pacers. The road ahead has already been tough. It appears it will be even tougher if they are fighting for the playoffs even against the teams just mentioned.

This season hasn’t been great for the Washington Wizards. That ugly losing streak the team went through was brutal. The injuries by Bradley Beal haven’t helped either. Many people wonder if Head Coach Wes Unseld Jr. is the right guy for the job at times. With so many obstacles in their way, what direction should the Washington Wizards take?

Benefits of Making the Playoffs or Play-In Tournament

If the Wizards aim to make the playoffs, it will be of some benefit for them. This would give the Wizards Big 3 an opportunity to show who they really are. It will give the front office the chance to evaluate if the pairing of Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, and Kristaps Porzingis is good enough to contend in the Eastern Conference.

Benefits of Missing the NBA Playoffs

Missing the NBA Playoffs automatically gives the Wizards a ping pong ball in the NBA Lottery. It doesn’t end there. It guarantees them a chance at an All Time Talent/Prospect in Victor Wembanyama. As it stands now, the Wizards won’t have a high chance at the Number #1 Draft Pick. However, they can tank the rest of the season to improve their odds. Although Victor Wembanyama is the name mentioned the most in the draft, there’s another name in this draft that is going to have a good NBA Career as well. His name is Scoot Henderson. In fact, he may even be the better fit for the Wizards. Either way, if the Wizards don’t feel this is a championship roster, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to miss the playoffs.
