Josh Allen Says Patrick Mahomes Apologized for Comments After Bills-Chiefs Game
Patrick Mahomes expressed regrets over his irate reaction to the offside penalty against Kadarius Toney during the Chiefs’ loss to the Bills last week. It seems he’s also reached out to Josh Allen personally in order to apologize for his remarks during their postgame handshake.
Allen addressed the situation on Wednesday, telling reporters that Mahomes reached out to him via phone call in order to apologize, though Buffalo’s quarterback didn’t consider it to be a necessary gesture.
“He reached out to me, and I was just like, ‘It’s football, it’s a game of emotion,’” said Allen, via Thad Brown of WROC-TV.
“I know he didn’t mean anything by it, and I know the cameras kind of caught the last few seconds of what we were talking about. But he’s an ultimate competitor. He wants to win and that’s why he is who he is,” he added.
Following the 20–17 loss to the Bills, during which a 49-yard touchdown was wiped away for Kansas City late in the fourth quarter because Kadarius Toney lined up offside, Mahomes could be overheard telling Allen he disagreed with the decision from the refs, saying it was the “wildest f–ing call I’ve ever seen.”
Mahomes said on Tuesday that he regretted his reactions after the game, particularly the way he handled his conversation with Allen. It appears there’s no hard feelings from Buffalo’s quarterback, who indicated he understood Mahomes’ remarks came from a place of frustration and emotion.
