49ers GM John Lynch Provides Insight on Brock Purdy's Recovery

In this story:
Quarterbacks were the topic of discussion at John Lynch's pre-draft press conference on Monday.
One of the topics broached to Lynch was the status of Brock Purdy. A lot is up in the air with the recovery of Purdy who underwent surgery on his ruptured UCL back on Mar. 10. Purdy also made matters worse when he recently said he was unsure if he will play in 2023, which only added to the suspense of his recovery. Lynch addressed all matters on Purdy at his presser beginning with providing insight on his recovery.
"He's doing really well," Lynch said. "As I understand it, he's definitely on schedule, hitting all the checkpoints, we're very encouraged from his rehab.
"He's attacking each day. I think he's focused on each day. Dr. Meister had said that an inflection point will be 12 weeks because that's when he's supposed to start throwing. Right now, he's just really focused on maxing each day. I think with rehab, having gone through it myself, there's a physical component to it. There's also a psychological, emotional, and mental component to it. Part of that is just waking up and really being where you're at. I think that's what Brock has done a really good job of."
So far so good with Purdy's recovery. The process is already halfway done and no setbacks have occurred. Of course, everything can always change in an instant. And there is no guarantee that Purdy won't have issues once he starts throwing. But as of now, the 49ers can feel good about where they are at with him.
"I get a lot of people reaching out saying that the high-fives at the Giants (MLB) game were really encouraging. But I think what's more encouraging is what I'm hearing everyday from our people, from Brock. He's making great progress. From where I have it, we're six weeks out, just finished that sixth week and really doing a good job with it."
As for the comments that Purdy made recently about his 2023 availability, Lynch isn't concerned about it, but he also wasn't too pleased with it either.
"I think it's more so Brock being Brock and understanding he's got to be exactly where he's at. It doesn't do him or anyone else a lot of good to be speculating about what's to come. Brock's just jumping in everyday and really doing well."
Purdy in those comments was just being transparent and factual. He basically was taking the angle of "who knows?" with his recovery and that anything is possible. But as Lynch cited, it does him no good with putting that speculation out there even if his words are technically true. I'm sure the 49ers did not like him saying that as it just brings unnecessary heat to the team that forces them to address it.
All in all, things are heading in an optimistic direction for Purdy.
