In this story:

Deebo Samuel has always been a man of few words.

Ever since he entered the NFL, Samuel always keeps his answers short and to the point with his press conferences. The same goes for his interviews. Except this time when he appeared on a CBS sports radio show with Zach Gelb, Samuel not only kept his answers short but the interview as well.

Gelb asked Samuel about his comments regarding the NFC Championship loss against the Eagles. During Super Bowl week, Samuel was interviewed a plethora of times during it where he was adamant the 49ers would've beaten the Eagles had Brock Purdy not gotten injured. Gelb wanted to talk about that again with Samuel and was having None of it.

“I don’t know. Just wait until Week 13, 12, whatever week it is, and we’ll show you,” said Samuel. He immediately cut the interview show as a representative of his took over.

Samuel is both right AND wrong for cutting his radio interview short. Let's start with why he is valid in doing that. Prior to that question being asked, Samuel was getting asked if quarterback Trey Lance has a future with the 49ers. A pretty bold question to ask and clearly one that would've gone exponentially more viral than how he handled the interview now. So, surely that is already annoying to him, especially because every pundit is asking him and fellow 49ers teammates the SAME question regarding 49ers quarterbacks all the time.

The repetition has to be draining and nerve wrecking. Imagine having a cast on your broken arm and having to answer "What happened to you?" over and over and over again. As someone who has endured that, it's completely annoying that I eventually started telling people I wore a cast for fun. I get that Samuel and these athletes are millionaires and it comes with the territory. But the question about the Eagles isn't a relevant topic anymore. That was five months ago, so why is this being asked? Who cares!

The only time this should've been brought up again is if it was the week the 49ers and Eagles were facing each other. Aside from that, I really don't understand it as someone who has to create content for a living. Let's not forget the fact that Samuel was being ASKED about his thoughts of the NFC Championship loss and Purdy's injury. He never went on an unsolicited tangent about it, so again, I get why he is agitated and wants to move on.

Here is where Samuel is wrong for cutting the interview short: he should've known what he was getting into. Going on a spot for national radio means the questions are written on the wall. I mean, every 49ers teammate has been asked the same as well. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk was asked about the quarterbacks with Rich Eisen at the beginning of the month, so of course Samuel is going to be asked. It's also fairly obvious that a question will be asked about his Eagles comments because it's really the only spotlight he's been in since the 49ers season ended.

Unless Samuel is completely naïve or suddenly doesn't know how this works, then he knew what he was getting into. You took the time to go on NATIONAL radio, and I emphasize that because I doubt the Eagles question gets asked locally at least, there was zero surprises with what was going to happen. I know I'm playing devil's advocate here, but I ultimately see both parties at fault and understand why they did what they did.
