In this story:

Chase Young immediately made his presence felt in the 49ers win over the Jaguars this past week.

He was exactly as advertised. The impact made both as a pass rusher and a run defender was thorough. And that was barely his first game in a 49ers uniform, so imagine the damage he will do once he gets settled in over time.

He's already aiding in freeing up the rest of the players on the defensive line and helps create a mismatch nightmare when lined up next to Nick Bosa. There's very little to doubt that Young will continue to be an excellent impact player for the 49ers. He gives them the best duo edge rush the 49ers have had in 2019 when Dee Ford was in the fold.

And that is exactly why the 49ers will re-sign Young when the season is over with.

They have been wanting another edge rusher who can anchor opposite of Bosa for years. The last two seasons it has basically been a compilation of depth. A platoon system in a sense, but with so many departed defensive lineman, the 49ers needed a true dominant pass rusher.

Ford was a one season wonder due to injuries derailing the end of his career. Drake Jackson is clearly not panning out this year, so Young gives them that expedited edge rusher that they have desired. I would imagine that Young would love to stay aboard as well.

After being with a lowly franchise like the Commanders, it has to feel extremely refreshing to be with the 49ers who are always going to be playoff contenders. Plus, he is surrounded by adequate talent. A one-year deal is my initial gut reaction to get it done with him. It's a way for Young to really invest in himself for the future to up his value going into the 2025 offseason.

But if he continues to look sweet, he could bank himself a longer term deal with the 49ers.
