Frank Pollack Reaches Out To Jonah Williams Following Trade Request: 'Should Have No Problem' Adjusting To Right Tackle
CINCINNATI — Bengals offensive line coach Frank Pollack met with the media after new left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. on Friday. He now has a brand-new starter at left tackle and discussed how he feels about Jonah Williams's trade request.
The Bengals' former starting left tackle is not keen on moving to the right side in a contract year.
"I reached out to Jonah, and I don't want to really spend a lot of time talking about that," Pollack said. "I'd love to coach Jonah, love to coach him. And there's an old saying that this is a great game and a crazy business, and I hope we get to coach him. He's a good football player. He's got a bright future, and hopefully, it's still here with the Bengals in 2023."
Williams is entering his fifth-year option and is scheduled to make $12.6 million in 2023.
Pollack noted how surprised he was to land Brown and that Williams would have no trouble moving to the right side.
"It'll be a little bit of a transition, but he's athletic," Pollack said about the move. "He's a smart player. He's a really good player in that regard. I think he should have no problem. Getting over doing that with reps and constraints. He's got a whole off-season. Guys have been asked to do that all the time. There is a little bit of transition going left to right. But I'd say it'd be a little bit smoother than going from tackle to guard. But he's a good player. He's smart. He's athletic. He understands what he does best. And he's a technician-type player. I think he can do it."
