Orlando Brown Jr. Signing Gains Value Following Andrew Thomas Extension
CINCINNATI — The Bengals signing of Orlando Brown Jr. this offseason just got even more valuable after the Giants made Andrew Thomas the second-highest-paid offensive tackle in the sport.
Adam Schefter reports the Giants signed Thomas to a five-year, $117.5 million extension. That AAV puts him right behind San Francisco's Trent Williams and the $67 million guaranteed at signing is the most in NFL history for an offensive lineman.
For reference, Brown is now the 21st-highest-paid offensive lineman in the league at a $16,023,000 AAV and just $31.89 million guaranteed at signing.
Now, Thomas was one of the five-best tackles in the NFL last season, while Brown was further down that list, but the Bengals new blindside protector was still 20th among all offensive tackles in PFF Grade last season (Thomas ranked third among all tackles).
A fun wrinkle in the new deal is who negotiated it. Thomas's agent, John Thornton, started 123 games at defensive tackle across six seasons for Cincinnati from 2003-08.
