Zack Moss Ready to Get 'Downhill' in Bengals Offense

Cincinnati added more explosion to the running back room.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals introduced new running back Zack Moss on Thursday as the former Colts running back inked a two-year deal.

He's a downhill runner who's ready to take advantage of all his Cincinnati opportunities.

"What type of role the running backs have had here in years past and things like that," Moss told the media about why he chose the Bengals. "Kind of offense that they run. It's a good marriage between the two, just my style of play. The runs that I like to run and things of that nature, and they do a lot of the gun personnel and all that type of stuff. So, it was just a good marriage. It made sense. Just excited to finally be a part of it.

Moss showed an efficient, semi-explosive style en route to a career-high 43 first-down runs in the Colts system. Now he's in an offense with Chase Brown that should cater to a 180-200 carry workload that worked well for him in 2023.

He ranked 15th among 35 qualified backs in breakaway percentage (25.5%) and 23rd in yards after contact per attempt (2.79 YPC). Joe Mixon ranked 30th and 32nd in those metrics last season.

"I'm definitely downhill," Moss said about his running style. "I like to be a one-cut runner. I think that's the best way to sum it all up. You know, growing up, my favorite runner was Marshawn Lynch and Arian Foster. So dudes that go downhill one cut, and then their physical game, all the talking and things like that.

"So that's kind of where I find myself is get downhill, make guys miss and try to impact the game from the physicality part and sometimes teams feed off things like that. So that's what I'm looking for."
