Bengals Promoting Dan Pitcher From Quarterbacks Coach to Offensive Coordinator

Pitcher has been in the Bengals organization since 2016.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals have agreed to a deal with Dan Pitcher that will make him their new offensive coordinator, league sources tell All Bengals.

Cincinnati acted quick after Brian Callahan was named head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Pitcher, 37, has been with the organization since 2016. Zac Taylor promoted him to quarterbacks coach in 2020—the year Joe Burrow was drafted.

Not only has Pitcher helped Burrow become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but he also guided Jake Browning down the stretch of the 2023, which included a 4-3 record in the final seven games. Browning posted a winning record and kept the offense afloat with Burrow out with a season-ending wrist injury.

The Bengals' star quarterback praised Pitcher last January ahead of the AFC Championship Game.

"We mesh so well in the meeting room and on the sideline," Burrow said on Jan. 27 ahead of the AFC Championship Game. "We have a great working relationship. I say this all the time but I couldn’t ask for a better group of coaches for my skill set and what I do."

There was plenty of interest in Pitcher from around the league. The Patriots, Raiders and Saints had meetings scheduled with him, but the Bengals were able to get the deal done to keep him in Cincinnati.

It's unclear what they'll do at quarterbacks coach, but promoting Pitcher's Brad Kragthorpe seems like the natural progression.

Kragthorpe was the Bengals' assistant quarterbacks coach last season and has been on Taylor's staff since 2019.
