Duke Tobin on Zac Taylor: 'He Knows How to Take Care of Players'

CINCINNATI — Zac Taylor started his Bengals career with one of the worst head coaching records in league history, but that's turned around in a major way over the last two seasons.

Director of player personnel Duke Tobin never waivered in his Taylor confidence.

"We never really had any doubt from Zach from the moment we met him," Tobin said on The Pat McAfee Show. "We knew he was about the right stuff. He believed in the same things that we believe in as a football team. He really relates well to players. He knows how to take care of players. He knows how to push them when they need to be pushed. He's got the right mindset in terms of doing what the players do best and putting our players in position to be successful, and you know, he's proven to be able to do that, you know, with players like Joe Burrow and, and (Tee) Higgins and (Ja'Marr) Chase and all of our guys and so there was never really any hesitation because we knew what he was about.

"He's great to be around. He's got a great mind. He's got excellent leadership. He grew up around football, he knows the game. So this is not new to us. And he knew the locker room, and anytime you're new anytime you have a whole new staff change, it takes time and, and so you know, we wanted to build it with him. And, and so, so far, so good."

Taylor started his HC career with a 3-19-1 record. Over the past two seasons, he is 22-11 in the regular season and 5-2 in the playoffs.
