Ja’Marr Chase Names 3 Bengals Who Are Standing Out at Training Camp

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase knows what it takes for a receiver to stand out in the NFL.

He's done it himself — and now he says he's seeing it in two newcomers who have caught the 26-year-old superstar's attention. When Kay Adams recently asked Chase which teammates had impressed him at training camp, the All-Pro wideout named Colbie Young and former CFL standout Dohnte Meyers.

“Colbie’s been making big plays,” Chase told Adams. “Dohnte’s been making plays with the ones.”

The two receivers are taking different routes through a crowded WR room. Young is a fourth-round draft pick expected to develop behind Cincinnati's established stars, Chase and Tee Higgins. Meyers is trying to turn a strong summer into a spot on the 53-man roster or the practice squad. Earning recognition from Chase is a promising sign for both.

Young, picked No. 140 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, gives the Bengals another big-bodied target behind Higgins. The six-foot-three, 215-pound Georgia product has used his size to make several contested catches during his first NFL training camp.

Meanwhile, Meyers has been given fewer opportunities on offense, but Chase has noticed how productive he's been when those chances arise.

“He gets in with the ones every couple — maybe he has like three or four plays out of the whole day with the ones — and he makes plays with the ones,” Chase said. “So that’s a big step.”

The 26-year-old Meyers spent the past two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before signing with the Bengals in January. He recorded 89 receptions for 1,405 yards and nine touchdowns in the CFL. He also has experience returning both kickoffs and punts, which could help his case in a roster battle.

Chase singled out DJ Turner II on the opposing side. The two have regularly competed against each other in practice, giving Chase a close look at the 2023 second-round pick's development.

“DJ’s been playing pretty good in camp. He’s been playing a little different,” Chase said. “I told him about himself earlier.”

Chase declined to disclose what he told Turner privately but said his teammate appears to be playing with more confidence and embracing his style. Turner is coming off a breakout season in which he recorded 18 pass deflections, one of the NFL's highest totals in just 16 starts.

Turner already has a starting role and is trying to build on a career year. Young and Mayers still have much more to prove. Their next opportunities will come in the preseason, when both receivers can show that the plays drawing Chase's attention in practice will translate to games.
