AFC Team Emerges as Trade Candidate for Bills' 2024 Fifth-Rounder on Roster Bubble

Could Brandon Beane finesse a draft pick for a player that isn't going to make the 53 man roster?

The Buffalo Bills have plenty of intruging young offensive linemen, and not enough roster spots for all of them.

One player on the roster bubble who's likely on the outside looking in is 2024 fifth round pick Sedrick van Pran-Granger.

An AFC team with playoff aspirations just lost their starting center for the 2026 season, opening the door for Brandon Beane to pull off a trade so the Georgia product isn't lost for nothing.

History repeats?

This wouldn't be the first time Beane would move an offensive lineman right before cutdown day.

Buffalo has previously traded Cody Ford, Russell Bodine, Wyatt Teller and Marshall Newhouse in the months of August or September in exchange for a draft pick, with the logical conclusion that none of these players would've otherwise made or stayed on the 53-man roster.

Van Pran-Granger's roster chances

Is it a guarantee that Van Pran-Granger won't make the team? No. But he seems to be an odd-man out given the depth Buffalo acquired at the center position this offseason.

Most importantly, the team re-signed starter Connor McGovern, locking down the middle of the offensive line for another four years.

Buffalo also signed Lloyd Cushenberry in free agency, the starting center for LSU while Joe Brady was part of the staff. The former third round pick has started 80 games in his career, and has routinely gotten second-team reps throughout the summer ahead of Van Pran-Granger.

Additionally, while Austin Corbett has been battling with Alec Anderson for the starting left guard spot, the former Panther logged 334 snaps at center while in Carolina last season.

Van Pran-Granger lacks the experience or versatility to push Cushenberry or Corbett as a reserve lineman, meaning he'll likely be a cut casualty at the end of the month.

Potential trade partner emerges

It takes two to tango, so what NFL team could be in the market for a center?

The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Sunday that projected starter Tyler Biadasz was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Rookie Jake Slaughter is projected to step into Biadasz's role, moving from the guard spot he was projected to play in for his rookie season in.

With the Chargers' offensive line undergoing a shuffle, while also lacking depth along the interior of the unit, LA is a perfect candidate for Beane to direct a SVPG trade.
