Browns CB Greg Newsome: "Jump Off Board If You Want. You Will Regret It"

In this story:
Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has created one of the most fun defenses Cleveland fans have ever seen. He has unlocked a level of confidence in these players that has been buried in the past.
Schwartz probably doesn't spend much time on X, but if he saw Greg Newsome's post yesterday it surely would have brought a smile to his face.
Fresh off his first career interception on Sunday, Newsome took to the social media platform to warn anyone jumping off this Browns bandwagon to do so at their own risk.
Jump off board if you want. You will regret it.

To Newsome's point, the defense should give fans plenty of confidence that this team still has a shot at the playoffs. That side of the ball has been nothing short of remarkable in the 2023 season. Through nine games they lead the league in yards allowed per game at 242.7, 31 yards better than the second-place Ravens who give up 273.6.
Additionally, Cleveland's secondary – led by Denzel Ward and Newsome – has shown an ability to suffocate teams through the air as its passing unit also leads the the league, giving up 151.1 yards per game.
Those are historic numbers through nine games this season.
Wednesday's news is obviously a gut punch for this Browns team and this fan base. However, Newsome is right, now is not the time to jump ship. There is a path for this season to still end in a trip to the postseason and a playoff run.
The formula is actually pretty simple. If the Browns can get average quarterback play out of the rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson and this defense can dominate teams, there is no reason why the Browns can't continue to win games.
The truth is that the remaining schedule is favorable and being at 6-3 the Browns have some runway to work out some kinks and finish this year around 10-7.
Jump off the bandwagon if you want, but Newsome and the Browns seem poised to prove you wrong. The process of doing just that starts Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
