Chargers Mock Draft: CBS Projection Has Bolts Trading Down to Secure Two First-Round Picks

The Chargers are projected to trade down for two first-round picks in a new prediction from CBS.

The Los Angeles Chargers are in a unique position, as they are set to pick at #5 in the 2024 NFL Draft. They are projected to stay put and pick up a dynamic WR like LSU's Malik Nabers

However, this draft is also loaded with WR talent, and they could still trade down with a QB-hungry team to secure two first-round picks. Should they be offered that, we believe new GM Joe Hortiz would likely jump at the chance to get the Chargers more draft capital.

The most recent CBS projection has the Chargers doing just that, as they trade the #5 spot to the Minnesota Vikings to pick up an additional first-round pick.

"The Vikings' intent is very clear with their weekend move, acquiring an additional first-round pick: They are preparing to move up for a quarterback. If three quarterbacks are off the board to start, J.J. McCarthy is probably their guy. He's widely regarded in NFL circles and the Vikings move up here with the Chargers, who are happy to drop back for a pair of firsts (11 and 23)."

Will Brinson of CBSsports.com believes the Chargers could secure the #11 and #23 pick from the Vikings, to allow them to move up and select J.J. McCarthy.

This is just speculation but it would be hard for the Chargers to say no to having two first-round picks. While trading down would eliminate landing Nabers, they could still land Rome Odunze at #11, and have one more pick.

Many projections have the Chargers selecting an offensive lineman like Joe Alt or Taliese Fuaga.

The Chargers could easily land Fuaga and a WR with #11 and #23 picks in the NFL Draft. Should this be the way the proverbial dominoes fall for LA, they would hit a homerun with their first two draft picks.

The issue is the Chargers allowed Mike Williams to sign with the Jets, and they traded Keenan Allen. The Bolts need WR help, and they would need to hit the free agents market to secure a proven veteran if they are to pull the trigger on trading down.
