Chargers News: NFL GM Believes Bolts Will Trade One of Two Defensive Stars to the Detroit Lions

There's a big possibility either one of these two won't be around in 2024.

The Los Angeles Chargers have a huge offseason ahead of them. They could make a ton of potential moves that would improve their team's trajectory.

These decisions won't be easy moves but will save them from cap salary hell. One of the big talking points this offseason is whether they'll keep one of their two elite pass rushers, Khalil Mack or Joey Bosa

The Chargers could really use both of these players, especially with a new defensive coordinator and coaching staff on their side, but the front office can't afford it. So, it will likely come down to who gets traded.

As the new league year rolls around, it's a matter of when rather than if. Who will trade for them is another conversation. However, one anonymous NFL general manager told Jaosn La Canfora of the Washington Post that the Detroit Lions will trade for either Mack or Bosa this offseason. Matt Johnson of the LAFB network wrote.

The Lions are coming off an incredible season where they played in their first NFC Championship game this century.

A potential addition of Mack or Bosa to the Lions would make them a Super Bowl threat once again. Although the Lions had an elite pass rush, thanks to Aidan Hutchinson, their total defense was ranked in the bottom half. Mack or Bosa would compliment Hutchinson and that staff exceptionally well.

The last thing the Chargers want is to get rid of either of these two, but doing so will significantly benefit them this offseason. If Mack is traded this offseason, pre-June or post-June first, the Bolts will save $23.25 million in cap savings. As for Bosa, if he is traded pre-June 1, the Bolts would save $14.28 million. If he is traded post-June 1st, LA will save $22 million in cap savings.

Either of these two is likely to be traded after June 1st. One thing is certain: Mack or Bosa will have a new team in 2024. The only question is, who will it be?
