The 2023 NFL Draft is set to be a critical event for the future of the Indianapolis Colts as they almost certainly use their first selection on a new franchise quarterback.

It was learned (on the outside) this week that they'll be getting a modest boost in their draft efforts on Day 3, as the sixth-round pick that the Buffalo Bills sent to Indy in the Nyheim Hines-Zack Moss trade was upgraded to a fifth-round pick.

"The conditional draft pick the Bills traded to the Colts for RB Nyheim Hines turned out to be a 5th rounder," Bills beat writer Sal Capaccio tweeted. "It is the Bills original/own 5th going to Indy."

Originally, the trade was the Colts sending Hines to Buffalo in exchange for Moss and a conditional sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-round pick. The exact conditions of the trade are still unknown, but it's often based on playing time.

Hines saw 81 offensive snaps with the Bills along with 113 special teams snaps.

In nine games (one start), Hines carried the ball 6 times for -3 yards and had 5 receptions (9 targets) for 53 yards (10.6 avg.) and 1 touchdown. He also returned 16 punts for 153 yards (9.6 avg.) as well as 19 kickoffs for 554 yards (292. avg.) and a pair of touchdowns that he famously scored against the New England Patriots in the regular-season finale.

The Colts hold seven picks in this year's draft, including one in the first round (No. 4), second round (No. 35), third round (No. 80, from Washington Commanders), fourth round (TBD), two in the fifth round (TBD, one from Bills), and one in the seventh (TBD, from Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

The Colts traded away a third-round pick (TBD, Denver Broncos) and a sixth-round pick (TBD, Buccaneers).
