10 Eagles Players On The Bubble Who Could Be Cut Following Latest Preseason Game

These bubble players on the Eagles did not help their cause in Week 2of the preseason, whether they played or not.

The second game of the preseason is a bit of a tell all.

Reading between the lines and the snap counts, it's easy to figure out who's playing the game early and who's playing late. The ones playing late in the game are a long shot to make the roster -- especially in a week where joint practices take center stage.

Player performance also plays a role in this too. Do preseason performances have that much value in today's NFL? There are ways to play your way out of a job in the preseason.

These players on the roster bubble are in danger of not making the 53 next week.

Andy Dalton (QB)

Who knows what the Eagles are going to do with Dalton at this point. Is Dalton the QB2 or is he going to be off the roster?

Dalton shouldn't be the QB2, even if the Eagles are giving the signs that they may be the case. McKee outplayed him in the preseason game on Saturday, and Dalton hasn't done anything to seize the job from McKee.

There's a better chance Dalton gets traded than making the roster at this stage. He's definitely on the roster bubble.

Elijah Moore (WR)

Moore didn't play Saturday and didn't practice on Thursday (neck), but he's played his way onto the roster bubble with a strong few weeks. Getting reps with the first team in the joint practice this week helped, even though Moore is battling Hollywood Brown for a roster spot.

The Eagles need to find wide receiver depth, so Moore may not make the 53 through no fault of his own. Howie Roseman may be busy this week, which could come at the expense of Moore.

All Moore has to do is continue to stack up good practices.

Cameron Latu (TE)

The performance of Carson Steele on Saturday may force the Eagles to keep four running backs. So how does that come at the expense of Latu?

Sean Mannion may incorporate the use of a fullback in certain packages, and Latu was the front runner for that role until Steele's performance on Saturday night. Steele has experience as a blocking back with the Chiefs, and can adjust to the fullback role.

Based on how Steele caught passes in the flat, not a great sign for Latu to make this team.

Micah Morris (G)

Notice how Morris was on the third team at guard and didn't enter the game until late in the second quarter? That's the first sign Drew Kendall, Willie Lampkin, and Jake Majors are ahead of Morris on the depth chart.

The rookie sixth-round pick may not make the 53. If Morris does, that's the 10th spot on the offensive line.

Cameron Williams (T)

Williams played 38 snaps on Saturday, but didn't enter the game until Fred Johnson and Markel Bell departed. The Eagles like Williams -- a sixth-round pick from last year -- but he's also battling John Ojekwu for a roster spot. Ojekwu can also play inside at guard as well.

With little position versatility, Willams would have to dominate the last preseason game. It may be too late.

John Ojekwu (G/T)

Ojekwu gained some momentum prior to the joint practices by moving inside to guard -- and playing well there. A pectoral injury has sidlined Ojekwu. enough where he didn't practic ethe past few days and sat out the preseason game.

Pending on how serious the injury is, that affects Ojekwu's roster chances. He had a strong chance to make the 53 prior to this injury. Let's see how long he's out for.

Uar Bernard (DT)

Bernard appeared to have a spot on the 53 thanks to his developent as a player on the International Pathway Program. The Eagles couldn't afford to risk a player like Bernard to waivers.

Bernard may not be the IPP player that the Eagles need to protect. That may be Joshua Weru, who's had a strong preseason and is making the decision to cut him hard for the Eagles. Doesn't hurt the Eagles could use more depth at pass rusher with Jonathan Greenard on PUP.

Weru looks like he can help an NFL team this season. Bernard isn't close to where Weru is in development. There's the answer.

Gabe Hall (DT)

Hall has performed well his preseason, even having an early pressure to force an incomplete pass by Tommy DeVito on third down to get the Patriots off the field on the first series.

The issue? Ty Robinson has locked up his roster spot. There just isn't room for Hall to make the 53 at a position as loaded as defensive tackle. Hall deserves to be on an NFL roster, but his chances of making the Eagles are slim.

Mac McWilliams (CB)

McWilliams is battling for one of the open cornerback spots, as the position has opened up with the Jonathan Jones injury (shoulder). Who knows how long Jones will be out, but if he still has to miss a few more weeks -- McWilliams has a shot.

While McWilliams started the game and made a few plays, he left with an apparent injury. Pending on the severity of the injury, that affects his roster chances.

Andre Sam (S)

Sam was the leader in the clubhouse for the No. 4 safety spot (should the Eagles keep four), but Cole Wisniewski and Maximus Pulley are coming on strong in the final week.

Wisniewski playing only the second quarter should give a sign where Sam stands towards making the team. He also made a nice special teams play that will help his roster chances.

The final safety spot (again if Eagles keep four) is up for grabs. Wisniewski seems to have the lead over Sam and Pulley.
