Falcons Add More OL Depth, Sign Former Eagles, Alabama OL

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA - The Atlanta Falcons got some good injury news on Monday morning when they cleared offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor for practice and removed him from the PUP List. Taylor wasn't seen at practice yet on Tuesday morning, and the Falcons are still looking far and wide to address their offensive line depth.

On Tuesday afternoon, they put a claim on former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts, who was previously with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. Roberts was placed on waivers by the Eagles, and he didn't last long before the Falcons claimed him.

Roberts was a combine invite in February. He didn't participate in any of the agility drills, but he measured a massive 6'5 1/4" and 333 pounds and did 25 reps on the bench press with 33 3/8" arms.

He was a three-year starter at Alabama and was a preseason All-American heading into 2025. He played in 10 games last season after starting 12 in 2024. He was on the Outland Trophy watch list in both 2024 and 2025, but regressed some last season with Alabama.

Roberts will compete with Kyle Hinton, Kam Dewberry, and Layden Robinson for a reserve guard spot. The Falcons took nine offensive linemen on their 53-man roster last season, and if they take nine again this year, it's likely to be Jake Matthews, Matthew Bergeron, Ryan Neuzil, Chris Lindstrom, Jawaan Taylor, Wanya Morris, Michael Jerrell, Hinton, and either Corey Levin or James Brockermeyer as the backup center.

Roberts has an uphill battle to climb to make the 53-man roster, but he could be a practice squad candidate after cuts on August 30th, when the roster must move from 90 players to 53.

The Falcons take on the Denver Broncos on Friday night in their first preseason action of 2026 under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. Roberts isn't likely to see much, if any, action with just a maximum of two days of preparation before Friday night's contest.

However, Stefanski has said he prefers starters to play in preseason games to get ready for the season. He has pegged Friday night's game against the Broncos and the preseason game three against the Miami Dolphins on August 28th as starter games. Game two next week against the Indianapolis Colts will not include many, if any, starters, as the team uses its joint practices to get first-team reps.

Roberts is just the latest player to join the Falcons this week. They've also added edge rusher Cameron Sample, running back Trey Sermon, and tight end Nick Muse as they work their way through the dog days of August to get ready for their Week 1 clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 13th.
