Giants’ Reported Offensive Coordinator Target Todd Monken Drawing Interest Elsewhere

Monken has been linked to the Giants' OC job, but he has another potential opportunity that would thwart his chances of following John Harbaugh to East Rutherford.

From the moment New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh accepted the team’s offer to lead the franchise out of the darkness as their new head coach, his reported choice for offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, saw his name surface almost immediately.

But timing is everything in the NFL, and the Cleveland Browns, who are searching for a new head coach after firing Kevin Stefanski (now the Falcons' new head coach), are, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, bringing back Monken for an in-person interview on Tuesday after being impressed by Monken's virtual interview.

Monken has never been an NFL head coach, but he did serve as Southern Miss's head coach from 2013 to 2015, where his combined record with the Golden Eagles was 13-24.

Monken isn’t necessarily a slam dunk for the Browns job.

Cleveland, per its X/Twitter account, has confirmed interviews with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz (who is also reportedly getting a second interview), Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheerlhasse, former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, and Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski just to name a few.

Monken is obviously someone Harbaugh has had success with. Since joining the Ravens in 2023, he’s helped to elevate Baltimore’s offense. Within his first two seasons, the Ravens ranked first in red zone touchdown percentage at 67.9 percent, rushing yards per game at 172.1, and passer rating at 110.8.

They also ranked second in points per game (28.4), yards per play (6.3), and total yards per game (397.6) over that same span before struggling in 2025.

If Monken, whose interest from the Browns is believed to be the only head coaching interest he’s received, but who has also reportedly received interest from the Bucs for their offensive coordinator vacancy, should not land with the Giants, Harbaugh, who is scheduled to meet with members of the Giants’ previous coaching staff early this coming week, could consider retaining Mike Kafka or Tim Kelly if he wanted to maintain continuity with the coaching quarterback Jaxson Dart has received so far at this level.

Harbaugh could also look at McDaniel or, perhaps, make an inquiry with Denver about interviewing quarterbacks coach and former NFL quarterback Davis Webb for the role.
