NFL Draft Rumor: New York Jets Interested in Trading Down

With Aaron Rodgers and the No. 10 pick in this month's NFL Draft, the New York Jets might be interested in trading down with a quarterback-needy team to acquire more picks.
In this story:

With the NFL Draft only three weeks away, rumors are swirling about what the re-imagined New York Jets will do with the No. 10 overall pick.

Draft another receiving weapon for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, perhaps Georgia tight end Brock Bowers or Washington's Rome Odunze. Or - coming out of left field - the Jets may actually trade the pick?

ESPN is reporting that the Jets are interested in trading down to get more assets. New York apparently believes it can swap the pick with a team desperate for one of the draft's many quarterbacks.

Writes ESPN: "What they'd really like is a trade proposal from a quarterback-needy team, which would allow them to acquire a top-100 pick. A handful of teams behind them, most notably the Minnesota Vikings (11th), Denver Broncos (12th) and Las Vegas Raiders (13th), might be motivated to move up."

Adding another lofty pick while still, for example, still drafting Bowers would be another coup for general manager Joe Douglas in a productive offseason that's seen the Jets add Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith and star receiver Mike Williams.

It probably will be contingent on the availability of a top quarterback - Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy. Problem is, it's unlikely that one of them will slip to 10. The Jets need Bo Nix to get so hot that a team wants to jump the crowd for him. A team also may covet the Jets' pick as part of a leapfrog plan to a higher spot.

It's possible that one of the top quarterbacks slips to No. 10, though ultimately unlikely.

Williams, Daniels, Maye and McCarthy are all seen as possible top-five picks. But perhaps one of them will fall to No. 10 and allow the Jets to capitalize and trade back.
