Lions Trade Draft Pick to Bring Back Kicker Riley Patterson

Lions traded an undisclosed draft pick for kicker Riley Patterson.

After kicker Riley Patterson was replaced on the Jacksonville Jaguars roster by veteran Brandon McManus, a reunion in Motown has taken place.

The Detroit Lions have announced that they've traded an undisclosed draft pick to the Jaguars for Patterson.

Patterson, in his second stint in Detroit, joins Michael Badgley and John Parker Romo in what is shaping up to be quite the competition throughout the offseason.

"I feel really good about the two guys we got right now," said special teams coach Dave Fipp prior to OTA practice. "You know, Badgley obviously played well for us a year ago. He's a very accurate kicker. He might not have some of the leg strength and all that as some of these guys. But then, the guy we brought in, (John) Parker Romo, he's got a big leg. He's talented. He's been really good for us. So, I think it'll be a good competition, and (I'm) excited to see how it plays out."

Recall, the young 23-year-old kicker spent the 2021 season on Detroit's roster, prior to being waived in August of 2022 and spending last season with the Jaguars.

In a corresponding move, the Lions have waived wide receiver Keytaon Thompson. Thompson was an undrafted free-agent acquisition out of Virginia, following this past April's NFL Draft.
