Lomas Brown: 'I Expected a Lot Better Execution' Against Commanders

Former Detroit Lions offensive lineman had concerns regarding Commanders game.

In any NFL preseason game, question marks start to arise regarding the actual talent level a team has.

For the Detroit Lions, there are now significant concerns regarding the depth along the offensive line. With Seth McLaughlin, Miles Frazier, Larry Borom, Melvin Priestly and Colby Sorsdal all struggling with consistency, there are many wondering who will step up and be reliable, if something should happen to one of the starting guards.

On the broadcast team, color analyst Lomas Brown also walked away with question marks and concerns, after the team did not execute the way he would have expected.

Detroit's second preseason game was a dress rehearsal for the regular season and featured many starters playing in front of the home crowd.

"I hate to say this, but I think it's more questions coming out of this game than answers that we have for us. I really do," said Brown. "I thought the Cincinnati game, I thought that was a pretty good game for us, especially being the first game of the season. But I expected a lot more, a lot better execution in this game."

Detroit gave up a fumble and touchdown return on the second snap of the game, finding themselves down 7-0 after receiving the opening kickoff.

Detroit's reserves on the offensive line did not play well and gave up far too any pressures and sacks.

Play of defense has been encouraging

On the Lions postgame radio show, host Marc Ryan also had concerns, but found positives in the play of the defense.

Detroit's defensive line had a positive performance, with many defensive ends stepping up.

"Quite honestly, it's not to say it was all bad news, but the offense was, it was a pretty, pretty putrid. offensive performance. Their backup quarterbacks, offensive line was offensive. The defense, bravo. Bravo to the defense. Round of applause even for the defense, right," said Ryan. "The defense stepped up, held the Commanders out of the end zone. That's exactly what you're looking for. That's exactly what you want.

"Six points for the Commanders offense. As a matter of fact, the Lions gave the Commanders, the Lions offense gave the Commanders more points, seven, than the the Lions defense allowed them, which was six."
