In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers have shown signs of improvement but will have to play their best game of the year on Sunday to beat the Los Angeles Chargers.

Taking center stage will be two quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, with Justin Herbert of the Chargers and Jordan Love of the Packers.

Herbert in his three-and-a-half seasons has accounted for 122 total touchdowns. That’s the third-most in NFL history, trailing only Dan Marino (144) and Josh Allen (134). Given how he’s put up numbers on a weekly basis, it’s certainly possible Herbert will break that mark with 23 passing or rushing touchdowns over the Chargers’ final eight games.

Love, of course, didn’t get to play at the start of his career. Thus, he’s accounted for only 19 touchdowns.

“Really, all those guys who are in my draft class, it’s awesome to see they all got their opportunity and they’ve all made the most of it and have been playing at a really high level,” Love said. “Sitting on the side, I was definitely eager to get my opportunity to get in there and be right with those guys. It gives you confidence to see guys you came in with and you know personally playing at such a high level, but I’m proud of all of those guys. Now, I’m right there playing with them.”

The key for the Packers will be protecting Love from the elite duo of Khalil Mack and Joey Bowa, who have 9.0 and 5.5 sacks, respectively. Morgan Fox has added five and Tuli Tuipulotu has chipped in four as the Chargers rank third with 31 sacks.

With protection, there should be opportunities for Love and his young pass-catchers against a defense that ranks 27th in opponent passer rating and 30th in yards per attempt.
