Jermod McCoy Provides Update on Workload During Raiders’ Training Camp

The rookie cornerback revealed his recovery process during the team's training camp.

The Las Vegas Raiders orchestrated one of the biggest steals in the 2026 NFL Draft when they selected cornerback Jermod McCoy in the fourth round.

McCoy entered the draft as a first-round prospect, but he suffered a torn ACL in January 2025, which kept him out the entirety of the 2025 college football season. While speaking with the media on Monday, the rookie cornerback revealed his recovery process and what he has accomplished during training camp.

McCoy's Thoughts

• "Yeah, [because] I had a little limit or whatever, but I've been able to exceed that," McCoy said of convincing the coaches to give him more on-field work. "So, it's been going real good for me."

• "Yeah, I think it's been a great process with [the trainers and coaching staff]," McCoy said of the recovery plan set by the team. "From the day I came in to now, the way I feel is so much better because...all the guys in there, I feel like they've just really been pouring into me. They done got me right."

• "I'm getting there," McCoy said of feeling his 2024 self, which was the last time he played real snaps. "Like I said, it's been a long time since I really played football. So, that's really what I'm taking this as: to get myself back to where I was. I feel like I'm really almost there."

While it was a low-risk, high-reward pick, the Raiders would love it if McCoy proves to be one of the best cornerbacks from this draft class, which was the expectation when he declared. McCoy was one of the best defensive backs in college in 2024, and if it weren't for the injury concern, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound cornerback would have been a surefire first-round selection.

Nevertheless, if McCoy can overcome his injury history and remain healthy, the Raiders may have the biggest steal in the entire 2025 draft on their roster. McCoy is that talented, and there was a reason many teams viewed him as the best cornerback in this past draft class.

Las Vegas brought in several reinforcements to the secondary this offseason, and early signs indicate that this unit could be one of the most improved areas of the roster. McCoy, Treydan Stukes, and Hezekiah Masses all have opportunities to make an impact as rookies. McCoy is getting back into form, and he has looked solid through Raiders camp.
