Saints Not Among 'Best Fits' For $35 Million Free Agent Target

In this story:
The New Orleans Saints have a few huge holes in their roster this offseason. Of all their roster holes, cornerback might be the biggest one. Last season, they traded Marshon Lattimore and this offseason, Paulson Adebo left New Orleans for a deal elsewhere.
With these two departing defensive backs, the Saints have been connected to a few star cornerbacks in free agency.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently left the Saints out of the "best fits" for Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas. Knox listed the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the best fits for Douglas instead of the Saints.
"Cornerback Rasul Douglas is the highest-ranked player from B/R's original board who is still available," Knox wrote. "A deep cornerback pool and an underwhelming statistical season in 2024 have likely led to his availability.
"While Douglas started 15 games for the Buffalo Bills last season, he allowed an opposing passer rating of 122.0 in coverage. Yet, he's a long (6'2", 209 lb) cover corner with terrific ball skill and a history of making big plays. Between 2021 and 2023, Douglas snagged 14 interceptions. With the Bills in 2023, he allowed an opposing passer rating of only 58.6."
Douglas would be a huge addition for the Saints, but he might be a bit out of their price range. Spotrac projects the star cornerback to sign for $35 million over three years.
But given the fact that Douglas still hasn't signed, there's a chance the 30-year-old could sign for a bit less than this number. The Saints will likely remain a potential landing spot for the star until he signs his deal in free agency.
