Looking at the May NFL Calendar for the Saints

In this story:
As we enter the month of May, things only build off of the NFL Draft for the Saints. We'll get our first looks at the rookies this month, as well as some returning faces when the team suits up for OTAs. Also, the NFL Schedule will drop soon. Here's a look at everything going on for New Orleans.
May
- May 1: Deadline for clubs to exercise fifth-year Option for players selected in the first round of the 2020 Draft. The team did not pick up the fifth-year option for Cesar Ruiz.
- May 1: Deadline for prior club to send “May 1 Tender” to its unsigned unrestricted free agents.
- May 1: Phase Two of NFL offseason starts. This will run for the next three weeks, with on-field workouts. These can include individual or gorup instruction and drills. Teams can also have plays with offensive and defensive players lining up against each other, but conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. defense drills are permitted.
- May 11: Tentative date for NFL Schedule release
- May 12-15: Projected three-day post-draft rookie minicamp from Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday on one of the two weekends following the draft. New Orleans will also have a tryout for invited rookies.

I officially started covering the New Orleans Saints & other NFL topics in 2011. My work has been featured on various outlets over the years. I worked closely with Skyhorse Publishing in Fall 2018 to update the book, Tales From the New Orleans Saints Sidelines, which filled in all Saints material from the 2013-2017 seasons. Prior to joining Saints News Network, I served as the Managing Editor of SB Nation's Canal Street Chronicles for 3.5 years, and before that with FanSided's Who Dat Dish as the Managing Editor for several years. I have also had experiences of being a freelance Saints reporter for The Sun Herald in Biloxi, MS and a contributing writer for WDSU, a local NBC TV station in New Orleans. I have appeared on a vast amount of TV and Radio shows, both nationally and locally. For tips, comments, or suggestions, please contact me at johnhendrix@saintsnews.net
