Seahawks Fringe WR Signs With NFC Opponent

Only a part-time player with the Seattle Seahawks, Penny Hart is returning to his home in Atlanta to try and catch on with the Falcons.

In with the new, out with the old. In other words, hello Jaxon Smith-Njigba, goodbye Penny Hart.

Not that his play ever really forced Pete Carroll to find ways to get him into the receiver rotation, but the former Seattle Seahawks fringe receiver has officially moved on. Hart, once an intriguing prospect who played three seasons in Seattle, has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Hart played in 39 games over the last three seasons, catching 11 passes for 82 yards. Playing in only nine games last season, he had three catches for 20 yards. His main production in Seattle came on special teams, where he played 77 snaps last season.

He spent his career with the Seahawks bouncing to and from the practice squad, and signing reserve/future contracts.

With the addition of Njigba with the 20th overall pick in last week's NFL Draft and the continued production of players such as Tyler Lockett, Hart's modest career in Seattle was slammed shut.

After going undrafted in the 2019 NFL draft, Hart was an interesting prospect who the Seahawks signed in 2020 following the receiver’s short stint with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Falcons are an appealing landing spot for Hart, who will be fight for a roster spot in training camp. He grew up in Roswell, Georgia, a nearby suburb of Atlanta. He played college football at Georgia State, located in downtown Atlanta just a short distance from Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Hart will now try to find a spot on a talented, young Falcons' offense that includes receiver Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts and this year's first-round pick, running back Bijan Robinson.
