4 Seahawks That Could Raise or Hurt Their Stock vs. Cowboys

The Seattle Seahawks will inch closer to building their 53-man roster when they take on the Dallas Cowboys in their first preseason game of the year.

Roster battles will be taking place, and some players could gain an edge while others could falter. Here's a look at four players to keep an eye on for the team's game against the Cowboys.

QB Drew Lock

Lock is expected to be the backup quarterback for the Seahawks going into this game against the Cowboys. There's a good chance he only sees a quarter or so of action, but his performance could dictate how the backup quarterback competition goes.

Lock is the favorite for the QB2 role, but if he underperforms, second-year pro Jalen Milroe could take over.

Lock may be the favorite for the backup spot, but Milroe has a chance to overtake him. In order to do that, however, Milroe needs to play at the level he's been at since the start of training camp. Coaches have been impressed with Milroe's growth from his rookie year to now, but he has to showcase that in a game in order for the team to truly believe in his abilities as a backup quarterback.

I'm also curious to see if the Seahawks build any other role for him outside of the quarterback position, just to get him involved as a 2025 third-round pick. The Seahawks should try to extract some value out of him if it is available.

The Seahawks value versatility in their players, even at the quarterback position. This is the time to experiment with subpackages and new plays with specific players, so the Seahawks should take advantage.

RB George Holani

Many fans might have been surprised to see Holani as the team's RB1 in the first unofficial depth chart. The pro from Boise State isn't likely to be the starter during the season, but his experience with the team, coupled with an injury to Zach Charbonnet, has thrust Holani into the starting spot.

Last year, Holani made quite the impact in the preseason, racking up 61 yards on seven carries and a 24-yard touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders. In that game, the No. 6 overall pick, Ashton Jeanty, only had three carries for 10 yards.

Holani should be given the most carries out of any Seahawks running back, but Emanuel Wilson, Jacardia Wright, and Velus Jones Jr. should also get some opportunities while Jadarian Price and Charbonnet deal with injuries.

CB Nehemiah Pritchett

Pritchett is competing for the third cornerback slot on the roster. The third-year pro from Auburn has a couple of teammates fighting for his spot, but he is hoping to showcase his growth and earn a larger role within the defense. That all starts with performing well against the Cowboys.

Pritchett is off to a good start in camp, but he can maximize his potential by showing out in his preseason debut.

"I've grown a lot," Pritchett told reporters via the team's website. "As a rookie, you're coming in, you really don't have a routine, you're trying to see what vets you can get close to to just get an idea of what you need to do as far as taking care of your body.

"As far as the playbook, Mike is a defensive minded coach, so you know his playbook is going to be super complex, so you're trying to learn all this new terminology, so I've grown a lot being more comfortable in the defense. Everything has slowed down a lot."

Pritchett will get a chance to showcase how much he has grown when the Cowboys visit the Seahawks at Lumen Field on Saturday at 5 p.m. PT. Fans can watch the game locally on KING 5 or stream it on the Seahawks mobile app.
