As the Seattle Seahawks get to know this year's draft class at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, those around the league are wondering what the team plans to do with quarterback Geno Smith. The 34-year-old is entering the final year of his contract but an extension may be in the works based on Seahawks general manager John Schneider's comments at the combine.

Schneider summed up Smith's performance in 2024 as "awesome" during an interview with NFL Network's Mike Garafolo on Wednesday. Smith passed for a career-high 4,320 yards last season, tossing 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

"He had some balls he'd like to have back, but he was awesome," said Schneider. "He had a really good season. Look forward to Klint [Kubiak] getting to know him and the new offensive staff."

The Seahawks GM sounded optimistic when asked if the team was making progress in contract talks with Smith. "We've had positive conversations with his agent and we hope to continue that this week," explained Schneider.

Seattle rightfully wants to get a deal done with Smith, but that doesn't close the door on the team adding his successor in the draft. While we don't expect the Seahawks to target a quarterback in Round 1, it's been speculated that they will add one in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL draft.

Considering the team previously drafted Russell Wilson in the third round, that may not be a bad idea.
