When the Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, those around the NFL stopped viewing the team as a true threat in the NFC. However, quarterback Geno Smith proved the doubters wrong with a 30-touchdown season in 2022.

Smith, 34, has been surprisingly consistent in his three seasons as the team's starter. The Seahawks quarterback is entering the final year of his contract and some believe it's time for Seattle to draft his successor. Could the team find a new QB in the 2025 NFL draft class?

One Seahawks insider believes the team could be tempted to address the position with a mid-to-late-round pick. In an article for MyNorthwest.com, Stacy Rost floated the idea.

"Kind of a fun one," wrote Rost. "The Seahawks are likely to extend Geno Smith, but Schneider has only drafted two quarterbacks in his entire tenure (Russell Wilson and Alex McGough) and the idea of taking another swing with a mid-to-late-round pick and adding to that group is tempting."

Extending Smith makes sense even if the team looks to draft his successor. The Seahawks could take a quarterback in the middle rounds, like they did with Russell Wilson, and could let him develop until he's ready to take over.

Obviously, Wilson was one of the few mid-round QB prospects to have immediate success in the NFL, but you can't expect to hit the lottery like that every year. The Seahawks will get a good look at this year's crop of QB prospects this week at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

If the team can land a promising prospect, such as Texas QB Quinn Ewers, Seattle would be set up for success for years to come.
