Steelers' Mike Tomlin Among Coaches Taylor Lewan Wants to Play For

The Pro Bowl tackle continues to make a pitch for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are certainly in the running for offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, and his recent comments made it even more clear he's going to hope for a phone call during free agency.

As of now, Lewan is a member of the Tennessee Titans, but the Pro Bowl left tackle has said numerous times he believes he'll be a cap casualty and hit the free agent market this offseason. If he does, he's hinted twice now at playing for the Steelers.

The first hint came when Lewan praised himself in a Steelers uniform. The second was pretty straightforward comments about playing for head coach Mike Tomlin.

During an appearance on the Steel Here podcast, Lewan talked about how great of a coach Tomlin is, and that he's certainly in his top candidates to be coached by this upcoming season.

“Mike Tomlin was the head coach of the Pro Bowl in 2017,” Lewan said. “He is a fantastic individual. I think he is so cool, he’s calm. You hear the guys talk about him, how great he is in the locker room and how he handles the locker room. Being a leader of men is a very difficult thing to do, and when I was around him that short week in a very calm and relaxing setting, I thought to myself, ‘Man, this is a cool coach to play for’.”

He also praised the locker room and how well he'd fit in, and again, that Tomlin is a coach he’d play for.

“That would be a very cool locker room to be in,” Lewan said. “If I was to make a list of head coaches that I’d like to play for, Mike would definitely be in the top part of that list.”

The Steelers could be looking for another option at left tackle with some question marks surrounding Dan Moore Jr. That being said, Lewan is coming off two ACL surgeries in the last three seasons, and his healthy is going to be a concern moving forward.

If the Steelers do want someone who's more proven protecting Kenny Pickett's blindspot, it feels like Lewan is making a pitch for himself to come to Pittsburgh,
